Customer Review Summary
The Harley Benton SC-Custom Plus EMG TBF is an impressive single cut guitar that has exceeded my expectations in many ways. With a history of playing for over 24 years across various genres including Metal, Rock, Blues, and Alternative, I was initially looking for a guitar that would fill a gap in my collection with active pickups. What I found was a well-crafted instrument that plays beautifully right out of the box.
The craftsmanship is noteworthy, featuring a beautifully finished neck and a solid overall build quality that rivals more expensive models. The fretwork is excellent, and the action is comfortably low with minimal buzzing. However, some players might find minor adjustments necessary for optimal setup.
The EMG Hot 70 pickups deliver a powerful and dynamic tone, especially in distorted settings, making it suitable for a range of musical styles. While the guitar excels in heavy genres, it may lose some character in cleaner tones. The high output from the pickups offers a satisfying experience for those looking to achieve a robust sound.
The guitar’s aesthetics are striking, with a finish that is even more impressive in person than in photos. It feels solid and well-balanced, although some users have noted that the weight distribution can favour the neck, which might not be a concern if you primarily play sitting down.
Despite a few minor issues, such as the selector switch feeling a bit flimsy and some initial fret buzz, these are easily manageable and do not detract significantly from the overall experience. Many players have reported that the tuning stability is reliable, a crucial factor for live performances.
Overall, the Harley Benton SC-Custom Plus EMG TBF offers exceptional value for money. It feels and sounds like a guitar that costs significantly more, and I find it hard to believe that I waited so long to discover the Harley Benton brand. For anyone seeking a high-quality, affordable single cut guitar, I would wholeheartedly recommend this model.
