Epiphone Riviera Royal Tan Review
Having long anticipated the return of the Riviera, I was thrilled to finally get my hands on this guitar. Upon unboxing, the instrument was beautifully presented, securely packaged, and came with an Epiphone certificate. The finish in Royal Tan is stunning, slightly darker than a typical Honey Burst, showcasing an elegant wood grain that adds to its visual appeal.
The craftsmanship is exceptional, with no noticeable flaws in the binding or construction. The guitar features a one-piece mahogany neck, which was a pleasant surprise compared to other models I’ve played. The mini humbuckers deliver a clear, defined tone that stands out across various amplifiers, offering a warm sound with good sustain. These pickups perform exceptionally well, maintaining clarity even when distorted.
The neck profile is comfortable, resembling a “Rounded C” shape that facilitates smooth playability. Frets are well-finished, allowing for easy navigation across the fretboard. The Indian Laurel fingerboard, while initially appearing rough, responded well to conditioning and now feels fantastic under the fingers.
Plugging the Riviera into my amplifiers revealed its versatility; it shines in blues, jazz, and rock settings. The tonal range is impressive, with controls that respond effectively, allowing for a broad spectrum of sounds from warm and mellow to sharp and biting. The Frequensator tailpiece adds a unique touch both visually and acoustically, enhancing the guitar’s resonance.
While the initial setup may require slight adjustments, the overall experience of playing the Riviera is rewarding. It’s a guitar that not only looks beautiful but also excels in performance, making it a worthy addition to any guitarist’s collection.
In conclusion, the Epiphone Riviera Royal Tan is a remarkable instrument that combines style, sound, and playability. It has exceeded my expectations and has proven to be a versatile tool for various musical genres. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a quality semi-hollow guitar.
