ESP LTD KH-202 BLK Kirk Hammett Review: The complete rundown

Customer Review Summary

I recently had the pleasure of testing the ESP LTD KH-202 BLK Kirk Hammett, and I must say, for a budget guitar, it feels incredibly premium.

This guitar ticks all the boxes for a versatile performance instrument. With 24 XJ frets and a Floyd Rose tremolo system, it provides great playability and expression. The neck is thin and comfortable, allowing for smooth navigation up and down the fretboard. It feels well balanced, making it gig-worthy right out of the box.

The passive pickups deliver an aggressive sound that closely resembles the iconic tone associated with Kirk Hammett of Metallica. Many players appreciate the sound quality, noting that while the pickups are not active, they still produce a compelling tone that suits various musical styles.

Visually, the guitar is striking with its sleek black finish and the skull and crossbones inlays, evoking memories of Metallica’s Black Album. However, some users have reported minor cosmetic issues such as scratches or rust on screws, which can detract from the overall impression.

In terms of setup, most found the initial tuning to be a bit challenging, especially with the Floyd Rose system. Some adjustments were necessary, particularly with the action and intonation, but once set up correctly, the guitar holds its tuning reasonably well, although a few users did experience some tuning instability during aggressive playing.

Overall, the ESP LTD KH-202 is a solid choice for those looking for a quality guitar at an affordable price. It offers a blend of excellent sound, a comfortable playing experience, and a striking aesthetic, making it a fantastic option for both beginners and seasoned players alike.
