Customer Review Summary

Gretsch G5420T Electromatic OS Review

As a long-time admirer of Gretsch guitars, I was excited to finally get my hands on the G5420T Electromatic OS. The craftsmanship is impeccable, showcasing a beautiful wood grain and a flawless finish. Out of the box, the setup was nearly perfect, requiring only a quick tuning before diving into playing. The playability is outstanding, with a smooth neck that feels great in hand.

The sound is impressive both acoustically and when plugged in. The new Filtertron pickups deliver a rich tone that shines through on various amplifiers, from a classic Tweed Champ to a Marshall for a grunge vibe. However, I did encounter some issues with fret ends—specifically, sharp edges on the high E-string side that could cause discomfort during play. While the low E-string side has nicely rounded frets, this inconsistency suggests a lapse in quality control.

Despite some minor cosmetic flaws and the need for adjustments, the overall quality is commendable for the price. The iconic Bigsby tremolo works well, allowing for expressive playing without sacrificing tuning stability. The binding is gorgeous and complements the striking orange finish, making it a visually stunning instrument.

In conclusion, the Gretsch G5420T Electromatic OS is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a versatile guitar that can deliver a range of sounds. With a few tweaks and upgrades, it has the potential to be a standout in any collection. For the price, it offers great value and is a worthy addition to any guitarist’s arsenal.
