Harley Benton RB-600BK Classic Series Review
The Harley Benton RB-600BK is an intriguing guitar that offers a lot of character and a classic design reminiscent of a Rickenbacker. It stands out visually with its retro body and vintage-style binding, making it a striking addition to any collection.
Upon arrival, the guitar is generally noted for its appealing finish and decent setup straight out of the box. Many players find it comfortable to play, especially those who prefer a short scale neck. The lightweight nature of the instrument makes it suitable for extended play, whether standing or sitting.
Tonally, the RB-600BK presents a unique voice. While it may not replicate the exact sound of a high-end Rickenbacker, it offers a range of tones that are satisfying and versatile. The pickups, though sometimes critiqued for being microphonic or lacking depth, can provide a pleasing sound when dialed in correctly. Some users have noted that with a bit of tweaking—such as adjusting the pickups and action—the guitar can perform admirably.
However, it’s important to highlight that many players have encountered issues that require attention. Some guitars have arrived with setup problems, such as sharp fret ends, high action, or poorly aligned bridges. Additionally, the tuners may feel less stable compared to those found on higher-end models, which could affect tuning reliability during play. Cleaning and upgrading components like the tuners and strings are often recommended to enhance performance.
Overall, the Harley Benton RB-600BK is seen as a great value for its price, especially for those who enjoy DIY setups and modifications. It’s an excellent choice for beginners or casual players looking for a distinctive, fun instrument without breaking the bank. While it may not reach the quality of more expensive guitars, it offers a compelling combination of aesthetics and playability that many find irresistible.
In conclusion: the RB-600BK is a solid option for guitarists seeking a unique look and sound at an affordable price, provided they are prepared to invest some time in setup and potential upgrades.
