Steinberger Guitars GT-Pro Deluxe BK Review: Build quality & Tone

Customer Review Summary

The Steinberger Guitars GT-Pro Deluxe BK is a remarkable instrument that combines innovative design with practicality, especially for those who travel or need a compact guitar. Its unique headless shape and minimal body allow it to fit comfortably in small spaces, making it an ideal choice for musicians on the move.

Upon unboxing, I was pleasantly surprised by the solid construction and overall finish of the guitar. The setup was decent, requiring only minor adjustments to action and intonation. The fretwork is generally satisfactory, although some frets may require attention to ensure optimal playability.

The guitar features a tremolo system that is well-engineered, allowing for locking capabilities that help maintain tuning stability, even during extensive use. However, some users have noted that the tremolo arm can feel a bit stiff and may not always sit securely, which could affect its usability in a live setting.

Sound-wise, the guitar is equipped with two humbuckers and a single-coil pickup, which provides a versatile tonal range. While the humbuckers are capable and deliver decent tones, the middle single-coil is often criticized for its lower output, making it less effective when blending pickups. Upgrading the pickups is a common suggestion among users to enhance the overall sound quality.

The weight and balance of the guitar are commendable, making it comfortable to play in various positions. Its compact size does not compromise its playability; the neck is easy to navigate, although it may feel slightly different from traditional guitars due to its unique design.

However, there are some drawbacks. The stock strings have been reported to be of poor quality, leading to issues such as tarnishing and a less than ideal tactile experience. Additionally, the tuning mechanisms can be a bit imprecise, which may frustrate users looking for quick adjustments.

In summary, the Steinberger GT-Pro Deluxe BK stands out as a functional and innovative travel guitar, ideal for practice and casual performance. While it may require some modifications and careful setup to reach its full potential, it offers a great balance of portability and playability for musicians of all levels. If you’re willing to invest a bit of time and possibly some upgrades, this guitar can be a rewarding addition to your collection.

The Steinberger Guitars GT-Pro Deluxe BK is an intriguing and well-crafted instrument that stands out for its portability and unique design.

Lightweight and compact, it’s ideal for travelling musicians, allowing for easy transport without sacrificing playability. Many users appreciate its solid construction and ability to achieve a low action, making it comfortable to play both seated and standing.

While the sound may be considered a tad dark by some, the combination of pickups offers versatile tonal options. The stock pickups perform adequately, though some may wish for higher output. The middle pickup, in particular, is noted for its lower output, but adjustments can be made to enhance its performance.

One downside is that the guitar arrives unadjusted, requiring some setup to get the intonation and string height just right. However, once properly configured, its playability significantly improves, and it proves to be reliable for practice and performances alike.

Some users have mentioned the need for special double ball end strings, though adapters are available for those who prefer standard strings. The absence of a headstock can take some getting used to, but it ultimately contributes to the guitar’s unique appeal.

In summary, the Steinberger GT-Pro Deluxe BK is highly recommended for those who appreciate its design and concept. It offers great value for the price, making it a solid choice for both home use and travel.
