Product Review: Squier CV 70s Strat HSS LRL WAL

Having played the Squier CV 70s Strat for a couple of weeks now, I must say it has been a delightful experience. The guitar is visually stunning with its rich walnut finish, and the overall craftsmanship is commendable, with only minor cosmetic imperfections that are hardly noticeable.

Out of the box, the setup was largely satisfactory, although I did need to make some adjustments, particularly to the nut and pickup alignment to avoid unwanted buzzing. The sound produced by the Alnico pickups is impressive, offering a versatile range that can easily transition from crisp, clean tones to light distortion with just a change in picking technique. The guitar has a well-balanced weight, making it easy and enjoyable to play.

On the downside, it’s important to note that the colour depicted in many online images can be misleading, as the actual walnut hue is darker than expected. Additionally, while the overall sound quality is good, some users have reported issues with metallic overtones that can detract from the clarity of certain notes.

In terms of build quality, the neck and fretboard are particularly noteworthy, providing a smooth playing experience. However, there have been some concerns regarding the tuning pegs, which could benefit from an upgrade for better tuning stability.

Overall, the Squier CV 70s Strat HSS LRL WAL is a fantastic guitar for its price point, offering great aesthetics and sound quality suitable for beginners and intermediate players alike. While there are a few areas that could be improved, it remains a solid choice for anyone looking for a stylish and versatile instrument.
